A blog is a place where an individual or small group can showcase themselves online. The rules behind blogging aren't as firm as regular websites, and often times they are representative of the opinions of the authors. Some blogs, like barstoolsports for example is the made up entirely of the creators opinions, and will often look at real news stories and put some kind of spin on to them.
Blogs are also frequently updated and don't require the same effort in laying out stories as a regular website. Anyone can have a blog, and no real knowledge of how to create a website is required. It is an easy place that regular people can post stories, pictures, or other links they wish to share with others.
